Basically just an uncased light dimmer - simple diac/triac controller. Bought it to see if I can make a footpedal speed control for my dremel. Works well, easy to customise, small and light. Heatsink is very small - wouldn't try to control the '2000 W' advertised for more than a few seconds! Nothing much by way of RFI filtering included, so it will cause interference on the mains. But just the job for basic power control, and great value.

I've fitted two of these to 0.5Kw single speed Scroll saw & a trimmer router. They work great & are simple to wire up. The Hitachi is double insulated, and therefore has no earth so was able to use a USA travel plug to make a dedicated small portable unit within an IP55 enclosure. (Don't do this in the UK, if you are unaware of the safety issues). They have already paid for themselves by stopping the bits burning out at 30000 rpm and the saw bouncing around the workshop.

I use it as a controller for my mini wood lathe running through an old router motor and reduction gearing, speed change is smooth with revs to spare lol. the controller works well doesn't overheat under a load, well worth the 5 stars.

I have 2 of these now for my guitar workshop using them as speed controllers for routers using larger size cutters. They are very easy to wire up and fit into a Maplins plastic case, they wind the speed down nicely from 0 to 10 and precise.

Does whats supposed to. I was intending to control the speed of a 20W AC fan but at low speeds the controller emits a high pitch buzzing so no go for a quite setup which is what i was trying to achive. No mounting holes was a bit of a problem the only way to mount is using the nut on the pot.
