Pretty much like anyone else with a radio I heard 'I knew I Loved You' in 1999 / 2000 and really liked it. A friend recommended 'Crash And Burn' and what do you know, that was pretty damned good too. Next thing you know, I've bought the CD and 'Savage Garden' had a new fan. They are a talented band who not only write interesting and exciting lyrics but also sing them in a lively and passionate manner backed by excellent music which they play with the same sense of passion. You can tell they really enjoy themselves when they pick up their instruments and start to play. Listening to this album was a fantastic experience. The songs are great and range from; ... wildly romantic ('I Knew I Loved You') to ... seriously heavy ('Two Beds And A Coffee Machine') ... passing through mildly depressing ('I Don't Know You Anymore'), ... uplifting ('Crash And Burn') ... and just 'leap up and down and flail your arms around wildly to the music' great fun ('The Animal Song'). And you can't say that about many CDs! If you've read my other reviews you'll know how much I love lyrics and this CD is simply overflowing with great lyrics and the neat little booklet which comes with the CD lists them all [great news] along with a couple of personal messages from the band. Nice Touch! You've probably guessed that I love this CD and still listen to it seven years on. Well worth having, especially if you take the time to listen to the lyrics. So, what's my favourite track? Difficult to choose but I'm going to forget all the deep meaning and beautiful love songs that touch me deeply and go with 'The Animal Song' for the sheer heart thumping enjoyment it gives me as I leap around the room! [I know, don't tell me, I'm a sad git.] Hope you enjoy it as much as I have... Regards tbodRead full review
Darren Hayes & Savage Garden were undoubtably one of the most popular groups in the late '90's and early 2000's. They have performed all over the world at some of the best venues (I have been to 7 myself), what not a lot of people know about Darren Hayes is the fact that he has a lot to do with charity, every single album sold throughout the world he has donated a % of the sale to chartiy and every time he puts on a cencert (no matter where in the world) he asks that you leave a few bits of change in a bucket on the way out. Now down to the singing part, when you hear artists on a cd the majority of them are messed around with effect to make their voice's sound better/higher/longer etc etc, when i heard darren for the first time live i was gobsmacked to hear the clarity and pitch range of his voice, he goes as high in real life as he does on stage....with no effects. Each song he writes has a meaning, and if you sit down and deeply listen to the words with no intertuptions you will find a meaning for yourself with each song, for example Affermation. why does junk food taste so bad because its good for you, all of what he says is true in life. Ballads that he does like 'Crash and Burn' are when he is at his best and you can tell that they are his favourite songs to sing, their is so much emotion that he puts into each song it is amayzing. Good luck and all the best to him is what i say.Read full review
