I bought After Thomas because my son is in the film as the film makers used his class at school for the classroom scenes, he is the little boy that says he would like 'monster shoes' when asked by his teacher. That aside we were also told the background to the film and the quite astounding story of how the real 'Kyle', and his parents dealt with his Autism and inability to communicate properly. The film is an acurate and touching portrayal of life with an Autistic child. To hear your child say his or her first words is something all parents look forward to, but when your child seems to not to want to or is unable to speak or show loving emotions towards you, it is a heartbreaking and difficult time. Keeley Hawes plays Kyle's mother to perfection and the yearning and need for her to hear her son say " I love you " is felt throughout the film and the audience are right there with her for every high and low, happy and sad moment. When Thomas the labrador is introduced to Kyle he seems to open up and almost communicate through Thomas. Some Autistic children seem to feel more comfortable communicating indirectly to their parents or peers through a third party such as toys or pets or any inanimate object that takes their fancy. After Thomas is well worth watching whether you have an Autistic child or not as it gives people an insite into the difficulties that a lot of parents have when dealing not only with an Autistic child, but also with the stares and mumbled comments from strangers who don't understand why your child is screaming or being difficult to control in public.Read full review

Last year my wife and I saw this film on TV and it had a marked impact on us as we have 3 autistic children, although anyone looking at them would not know this. I have lent this to a number of work colleagues who did not realy understand the impact that this can have on others lives. A number ofd these have had there perceptions changed by watching this DVD. After we had watched this on TV we bought a Golden retriever puppy which we called Ben, since he has come into our lives he has formed a strong bond with the children and the interaction on there return from school is heartwarming to say the least. For those of you that have children that suffer with Autism, watch this and see that there is always hope. For those of you with children that do not have Autism, watch this and learn. As for my wife and I, we watch it on the cold dark nights when we need something to make us smile, and in places cry. It does not have bloodshed, graphic sexual reference or bad language. What it does have is that feel good factor that is all to often missing in films today. Buy, Watch and enjoy.Read full review
