historically quite accurate although Heston's acting is 'wooden' as usual....

Flawed epic about Michelangelo and the painting of the Sistine Chapel. Despite his obvious sincerity, Charlton Heston is not an ideal choice of actor to play the great artist and Rex Harrison (with his tiresome and oft-repeated question, "When will you make an end?") is unconvincing as the Pope. Best part of the film is the amazing, rickety scaffolding on top of which Michelangelo labours for years. Like many epics of the time (1965) the film has an interval. Some filmgoers may not have returned to their seats for the second half.
A brilliant film a very moving film about the conflict of two great people and striving for perfection.
