Al Merrick 6’6” Flyer II (2) Shortboard by Surftech (Tuflite)
I have to offer in this auction an Al Merrick 6'6" 19.25" 2.5" Flyer II shortboard by Surftech. Originally shaped by Al Merrick, this board uses Surftech’s Tuflite technology. It is lighter and stronger than traditional PU surfboards and much of that weight saving and strength comes from the construction. Unlike regular polyurethane cores, which weights 2.5 - 3lb per cubic foot, the cores are built from 1lb EPS foam. A layer of high density aerospace glass composite stabilises the core giving it increase strength and toughness. The end result is an incredibly light weight and durable board.
It is the perfect progression board if you thinking of stepping down from 6’10” or 7’ fish boards. It was my first 6’6” shortboard.
Volume: 36 Litres
This is one of the highest volume 6’6” Tuflite shortboard on the market at 36 litres. It sits between the ultra high volume of the 6’8” (45l) Al Merrick flyer and the 6’4” (30l) Al Merrick flyer. So is perfect if you want a shortboard smack bang the middle like I did!
No longer in production, the Flyer II is widely considered the most versatile shortboard Channel Islands makes. Full rails and high volume allow for floatation in small waves while the swallow tail keeps it keeps it solid in overhead surf.
When you ride this board you will find that it paddles quickly which enables you to power into waves of all sizes. Once you’ve popped it absolutely flies!! This board picks up speed easier than most boards of a similar length which is a real bonus when you’re trying to make a section on a crumbly day.
The swallow tail digs into the wave enabling you to turn on a six-pence, shedding it up, while the extra volume and fast paddle provides wave pick-up. So you get the awesome loose feel that a shortboard provides while still raking in a high wave count.
This is also perfect for those small summer days if you are already currently riding a shortboard and just want a bit extra volume while still having a board that you can throw around. Due to the fast paddle however it is also perfect for those really big days to get you in nice and early on the wave.
If you can only have one board for all types of waves from real small to well over-head, this is your board.
This is not a cheap board no longer in production. If only someone was selling an Al Merrick Flyer II when I was looking to progress! Please see website for more info http://surf.surftech.com/featured-boards/channel-islands/flyer-2/ for more information.
The board is first class condition.
Included is an 7mm ocean to earth travel bag and unused FCS Al Merrick GAM fins but NO leash. Please note this board is sold as collection only from Yeovil but I am often going up to North (sometimes South) Devon, so I may be able to deliver it in person when I’m that way.
I would prefer cash on collection, rather than faffing with PayPal.
Thanks for looking at my auction if you need any more pictures, just ask!
