Alan Bleasdale wrote about the inequalities between the rich and the poor and the political situation in the North of England in particular. He did this with a very keen eye and in a very humourous style. He teaches the viewer about life in a surreal way. He did very well in the 80s and 90s. This set comprise the following 3 mini-series; GBH, Melissa and Jakes Progress and comes with interviews with Alan Bleasdale as well as the stars. The cast of each mini-series includes 'regulars' such as excellent Julie Christie and Robert Lyndsey. However other well-known actors include Michael Palin. GBH is clearly the most outstanding series in my view as it explores the complexities of power, money and sex as well as mental health. All of the series start in a slow creaping way, as many great works of the past did, but the build-up is relevant, entertaining and thought-provoking. The climax is well worth waiting for.Read full review
