Whereas the song on which the film was based was a masterpiece in itself, I felt that the film did not live up to expectations. It was however a nostalgic reflection of anti-war protest and the hippy culture of America in the 60's, but the story gets stuck in a groove towards the end. Nevertheless, I found it worthwhile watching for Arlo Guthrie's unforgetable allegory and some rare musical performances.
Alice's Restaurant (DVD 2003) This was bought for Xmas present for my dad. He told me it was Excellent and very funny. He would recommend it if you like foke music.
Having owned the vinyl and CD the film had to be a must see. I was not disappointed, this is a period piece so don't expect the gloss of modern movies. This will take you back 40 years and not only do you get Arlo Gutherie but also Pete Seeger. A gem.
