About this product

Product Information

This up-to-date, clearly written and beautifully illustrated book is targeted at the amateur repairer and at the absolute beginner with no experience, as well as at hobbyists who often dabble with, but have little knowlege of, the techniques used in quality horological work. Written by a professional clock repairer with a common sense approach, this workshop companion for the beginner 'keeps things simple' whilst placing an emphasis on the quality of the work. It provides step-by-step illustrated instructions and simplifies a large variety of tasks that are often regarded as being complicated, such as re-pivoting, jewelling and bushing. Moreover, it presents a great deal of useful advice and contains over 400 high quality colour images that help to explain and clarify every procedure that is covered. AUTHOR: Scott Jeffery's interests in horology stem from his fascination with engineering and workshop practices. After studying aerospace engineering at BTech level, he went on to university to pursue his interests in aerodynamics and mechanical engineering in the form of a bachelor's degree in motor sport engineering. After receiving a mechanical watch one Christmas, he enrolled in the British Horological Institute's distance learning course, and is now a fully qualified MBHI. Scott has repaired over a thousand clocks and runs Hampshire Clock Works in Twyford where he was initially trained by his mentor, Chris Baldwin CMBHI. SELLING POINTS: . A no-nonsense guide to rectifying the common faults found in mechanical clocks. . Essential reading for all those interested in horology but specifically for the novice who wants to repair mechanical clocks according to best practice. . Topics covered include tools needed to competently repair a clock; the theory behind how clocks work; how to assess and dismantle your first clock; common repairs; methods used to clean a clock movement and much, much more. . Beautifully illustrated with 424 colour photographs. . Scott Jeffrey is a fully qualified MBHI; has repaired over a thousand clocks and runs Hampshire Clock Works. 424 colour photos

Excellent seller the book was exactly as it was described & the price was really good, delivered very quickly & very securely in thick heat sealed bag, communication was very good too. This seller gave excellent communication & a full refund when the book I ordered was found to be damaged at the warehouse. They sent a very apologetic email explaining the issue & refunded me straight away. I have used this seller before & they have always been reliable & prompt with delivery. The items have also been in even better condition than described for an amazingly reasonable price. This was not their fault, so I would definitely buy from this seller again & recommend them to others.

  • Great book, some improvements recommended.

Good explanations supported by colour pictures. Better labelling of the pictures would help as would a more extensive glossary, as a term may be used in the text which one can recognise as having been used before but cannot remember what it refers to or cannot trace back to the original mention. Also sometimes a diagram may be useful and also show on the diagrams the direction of motion. Finally, a clearer description step by step of reassembly and setting to work would be useful, including sequence, important alignments and pre-start checks, etc. Otherwise very helpful and clarifying. I now feel I understand how carriage clock strike mechanisms work (except for the strike stopping mechanism which I had to ask someone about since it is not really clarified in the book). • Highly recommended for the new horologist

Its great to have a book written recently which covers the basics of clock repair and incorporates modern techniques that don't cost a fortune. Well thought out covering 3 levels of equipment which encourages the beginner to expand and deal with more complicated repairs. A modern day Donald de Carle with up to date photos and illustrations.
