This is an Antique 5 Piece Silver Plated Cruet Set by Walker and Hall of Sheffield.
It is not possible to accurately date this piece, but we believe it to Edwardian - George V ( 1901 - 1940)
On the base of the cruet are the following marks -
A flag with the letters 'W&H' inside - the trade mark for Walker and Hall of Sheffield
Beneath the flag is a shield containing the figure 'Pi' in gothic style above the numbers 51027
On the opposite side of the base are the words ' Warranted hard and silver soldered' above the number '3', above an inverted object that appears to be a horseshoe.
There is very limited research on the meanings of marks on silver plate, and we cannot interpret these marks
The five pieces in the set are -
The stand - this bears marks of wear consistent with its age and use. There are no dents in the piece, but in places its plate is wearing thin and there is some pitting in the surface, mainly beneath where the condiment items stand. The stand is a good weight at 624gms
There are four glass condiment receptacles -
Two are for vinegar or oil, each has a glass stopper. They are in good condition although the stoppers each has some chipping on the inside of the stopper.
The other two have plated silver tops, one is for mustard, the other has a shaker top for either salt/pepper.
The glass containers are in pairs of design, and although it may be that one or both is not original to this stand, they all fit perfectly.
The overall height of the cruet stand is 20.5 cms. by 15.5 * 15.5 cms base
This will make an ideal decorative piece and it is fully functional.
