Firstly, the imac MC814B/A looks great. I was more or less forced into the situation of buying a new computer. I had a G5 power mac and used it mainly for music production, so it was loaded up with hard drives and memory etc, and it suited me fine. But with the advent of duel core/quad core processors Apple, true to form, have rendered my G5 obsolete, so no more system upgrades therefore no more downloads. What to replace it with? A mac pro would be the obvious choice but a lot of money to find out of an already empty pocket. Thinking laterally, I don't need a battle ship to sink a yacht and I'm getting pushed for space. Enter the 27" imac. Fast, more than enough power for me, and space created by not having a tower. I require a big screen because I have to view several windows at the same time, otherwise I would say that the 21" version would be ample for most applications. If you use a few external devices you may need to buy a USB/Firewire hub but this still doesn't make the overall price out of the way. Remember that everything goes on behind the computer, including the on/off button and the DVD and card reader slots are at the side, so the imac needs to be within arms reach. Wall mounting is not a practical option. This is still my new toy, I'm having fun with it and it does what it's supposed to do. I would recommend it to anyone.Read full review

It's quite difficult to write a review on something that is so obviously an outstanding piece of kit that is both functional and beautiful. Steering away from the ugliness of the PC is the main attraction, but moving to Mac OS X can be intimidating. A whole new operating system after using Windoze for so many years took a bit of doing. Firstly considering the Dual Boot of Windoze using the built in Boot Camp program was in my mind, but whats the point when the whole reason for a Mac is reliability. Well, it took me 2 weeks and now I hate Windoze with a passion. Buying a Mac, any Mac, makes you think you have grown up and left your toys behind. This feels like a proper computer. No crashing, no freezing, not blue screen of death. On top of all that, updates to new versions of the OS are free. A new Mac gets you Apples Office Suite...free. And few problems with viruses, and when there is, Apple releases an update to eradicate it, so no paying for Anti-Virus packages. Weight that up with the need to update your PC each year to keep up and the fact that the average Mac lasts a lot longer than the average PC running Windoze and your on the way to understanding why its actually sensible to fork out on a Mac. This Mac (my tenth, and most of those I still have), is a good machine compared to the new ones. This iMac can be upgraded a lot easier than the 2013 models. RAM upgrades are a few minutes work, so feel free to purchase a 4GB machine and upgrade as you need to (u to 32GB). The Hard Drive can be swapped (I am replacing mine with a 4TB Seagate SSHD drive for all my photos) in about half an hour with the right tools and the OWC thermal sensor adapter kit. This iMac had a DVD re-writer in to too, the newer ones don't. The 27" screen sounds big, and it is, but not too big, just right to do your work in one half while having your email, chat screen or technical info on the other half. It's bright, clean and easy on the eye. Height cannot be adjusted, but angle can. You can buy a second and even third Apple 27" display to mirror or extend if you want, via Thunderbolt, or you can Mirror or extend to your HD TV using an Apple TV over a wireless connection if you want to, this helps if you want to view something on the internet on your TV, but can just make the biggest screen you have in your house an extra screen for your Mac. Buy it, for the spec I bought (3.1gHz Quad Core i5, 4gb RAM, 1tb HDD) you should be looking about £550 (mid 2015 pricing).Read full review
As a newbie with Apple computing this was a wake up call to my computer knowledge, the standard features I am used to and very confortable with using various Windows systems are very different on an Mac system so it is like starting all over again, simple commands are not the same and take getting used to especially as I still use windows as well. The Mac itself looks the business and also does have a ton of features which look good but as said still learning the capabilities of the system so too early to say if it does all I need. Graphics, speakers, video camera all are top notch for my needs and I am very impressed. So far so good.
Best computer I recommend everyone to buy this to play games ,graphics ,supports Windows 7 etc. I5 3.1 GHz processor 16 Gb Ram AMD Radeon 6970M SSD
