I would not pay a whole lot for the product but if you get it at a good price than it does the job well enough! The Optical Output is ONLY 2.0 Stereo and does not have 5.1 Surround support. If it did than I would give it a much better review. I was hoping for that and DTS support so I could get my DTS working again since I switched PCs for my media area. I guess I will just have to settle with the 6-Channel Analog output for now. That is still better than Stereo output and Dolby Prologic. Thanks to software support for DTS I am still able to get 5.1 support via the 6-Channel analog output with movies on this! If you were looking for the same as me and can't find anything in this price range for DTS at least you can know that you can get 5.1 through the analog for movies as something to tie you over for now. It won't help with Dolby EAX for video games and things like that though.Read full review

I bought this card to Replace older Creative SoundBlaster Live card which was causing my newer system to crash. I had tried A Creative Audigy Sound Card before but my computer system did not like it. The Asus PCI Xonar DG Sound Card is very similar to my old one - but I think both could have a better way to make your own reverb or have more adjustments to the original set ups. So far I'm happy with the card, it hasn't given me any trouble, it was easy to install drivers with no hidden problems, computer system accepted it very nicely.
The combination of features, quality, & price on this device is simply impossible to beat. There may be better sound cards on the market (maybe), but nowhere near this price -- & if there *is* one better, you are unlikely to actually notice the difference with any human ear.

Boosts your headphones sound by a very good deal, easy to install and setup. comes with wuick setup manual and a CD for drivers. Only con that i could find is that, the CD did not work for me and did not install anything, but a quick lookup in ASUS website can solve that problem.

I mostly got this for the OPTICAL output. I have used 5.1 and 7.1 with very high-end amps and found no diff. So, seriously, unless you have a REALLY big living room, those 2 extra channels are not going to add anything. IMHO, Xonar beats Creative Labs (Sound Blaster) for sound quality. If you can't afford a high end discrete DAC, the Xonar line is a good option. I had the Xonar Essence and then moved up to a discrete DAC. The discrete DAC was an improvement, but not as dramatic as you might think. Xonar sound cards are fine products, and I'm a difficult customer to please.
