This is a Microphone that took the neodynium Mics. to the more affordable packages back in the early 1990's, with shure Brothers just coming out with the Beta series others like Electro Voice had mics that cost twice as much. Let's face it, although the Shure SM-58 has been the Coke to the Microphone business, it is not the best sounding Mic. it is temperamental on mid high frequencies compared to Audio Technica, and the AT Mics sound better even to die hard Shure SM-58 fans in live testing. The Neodynium elements changed the Mic industry both for Shure and Audio Technica. The Beta-58 came out and then the entire Beta line followed; however, the ATM- 61 HE made such an impact at the first Winter NAMM shows here in California that Dealers like myself could not get them quick enough! I remember that Huge dealers like Guitar Center hogged much of the first available ATM-61 HE's up. Alas we did receive our orders and I used the ATM-61 HE instead of the Shure Mics. Since. the dual voice coil element gave the mic such control and it reproduced much more lower tones than the die hard standard Shure SM-58 did without the famous feedback that the SM-58 would give at the same volume levels. The ATM-61 HE also had more dynamic headroom and was overall a better Microphone than the SM-58. I still have 4 of these Mics in my arsenal and I still love them.Read full review
I bought this used with a big dent at the top and it works fantastic. I have a foam windscreen attached and it looks even better. I used it once already for a video production and the sound is perfect as long as it is near the person speaking. Audio-Technica makes good products at reasonable prices and I recommend this microphone.
