I bought this product as i am a big Banjo Kazooie fan and own a collection of Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games, however this was the first one i would have in a completed form, however my purchase was influenced by a review i saw online that game the game good scores for graphics and gameplay. I liked the product for it's colorful graphics and it's loose connection to the Banjo Kazooie universe as it features tracks like Treasure Trove Cover, Grunty Industries and Feezeezy Peak, the variety of playable characters is good as well, ranging from Mumbo Jumbo and Banjo to Grunty and Bottles the mole. The Track design is pretty unique because of the plane aspect and is better for it as it makes it stand out from the crowd of 'Mario Kart Wannabes', however what does confuse me is the fact that the planes are slowed by 'driving' over rough ground, this kills the whole plane idea and as such ruins (slightly) my enjoyment of the game. The music in the game can be hit and miss also, some tunes are quite nice and are dirivitives of the original piece (such as the aforementioned Freezeezy Peak) but there are some original tunes too, and they don't have the same memorability as the older tunes used in the game. Gameplay is fast and hectic like any good kart racer and the power ups definitely feel as thought they came from the banjo universe and have a FAR better connection to the source material than SOME racing games on current generation consoles, items include Homing Eggs you could obtain via Stop 'N' Swop in the original games and the Dash Shoes from Banjo Kazooie. Graphics is where this game falters slightly, at times it can look a little pixelated and blocky however this is easily forgiven for the superb gameplay aspects and the experience of the game. Overall this is certainly a cut above the rest of the Kart Racers that try to be or beat Mario Kart, the unlockables in game are satisfying (be careful of unlocking Bottles, he breaks the game like a cheap plate, trust me) and i say it is a must own for any Gameboy Advance lover. 4.5/5 Awesome game and a great addition to your game library, a couple of aspects like the ground issue prevent this from being perfect but true kart racing fans and Banjo Kazooie fans can forgive this, oh, and it is FAR better than Nuts & Bolts ^_^Read full review
I bought this for my daughter, & her(original) d.s As She really loves the banjo & kazooie team. We now have the whole collection. This is a better than average race game. Some of the levels are hard for her, But that's the beauty of the games, If it was too easy she would get board & give up. It is unlike Grunty's revenge (that just seems to be a hand held version of the original N64 games), more akin to the mario cart game. But with all the usual suspects in custom built planes. It is showing it's age now. But there is the standard tongue in cheek mayhem & chaos that surround these two, Plus a whole heap of fun, good enough to keep us Both amused. If you like the daring duo of bird & bear, give it a go. Old enough to be cheap as chips, But still good enough to amuse.
I bought Banjo Pilot because I wanted to experience all of the Banjo games, both the Nintendo 64 original classics and the two spin-off games (and eventually Nuts & Bolts). I found myself enjoying this game a lot more than I initially thought I would, just like I did Grunty's Revenge. The gameplay is as good as it can be on the GBA, the different modes and stages fit in theme with the Banjo Kazooie franchise, and the graphics are very colourful and well-detailed. The hardware limitations don't stop it from running smooth. I do have a fair amount of complaints with the game though. The level variety is few and far-between, Bottles is OP for no good reason, some of the challenges feel repetitive, and the Rare records you have to beat once you've unlocked everything else in the game makes 100% completing the game more of a chore than enjoyable. There's challenge, and then there's unfair difficulty. Also, it's very distracting how Donkey Kong-esque the music is. Since this game was initially going to be Diddy Kong Pilot, it is understandable, but the music really doesn't fit the game at all, save for the main theme. It just comes across as lazy to me. Probably the weakest game in the Banjo Kazooie franchise, but by no means a bad game... all things considered. Different musio, more levels, less lazy modes to add artificial replay value and balanced character stats would have made this game a worthy competitor to the likes of Mario Kart, but it's still worth the fiver you'd have to pay to get it.Read full review
