I'm not going to compare the Boss BR1600CD with computer programme studios, because I'm old school. In the past I've used a Boss BR600 and then an 800. The 1600 is ideal for me. Loads of tracks (8 mono and three stereo) even allowing for the drums taking up one of the stereo tracks, which is not the case in the 600 or 800. The guitar effects cover just about everything you can think of, including a great selection of bass guitar sounds. It's possible to record eight tracks at once if you want to - although I use it for solo projects. I suggest that it's worth reading the spec on the Boss site, and possibly even reading the handbook which is also on their site. Just be aware that the full handbook is 315 pages long! I'm still getting used to using the studio, but it seems to do everything I could possibly want - and more! I have no idea how good the two computer programmes are. A friend is looking to see if they might be usefull to a school. Read full review
