This is a great GPS for downloading charts for sailing. The detail is the same as you would get with any chart plotter as it uses Raster charts. However, it looks like Garmin have phased out this model now and with it the support for charts on it. So, the charts will go more & more out of date as time goes by. So always use paper charts and the Almanac for latest buoy data. You can upload waypoints from a PC along with routes which makes planning easier. This model also has a Barometer which is very useful when sailing. If it is left on plugged into a laptop on USB or 12v supply it produces a graph of the pressure which is great for the weather.
I'll keep it short as there is no point in droning on. This is the Rolls Royce of handheld GPS. Lots of bells and whistles but so user friendly too! Accuracy seems better than claimed as the cursor could detect my moving into my bedroom in my one bedroomed flat! The only word of warning is this. DO NOT BUY SOFTWARE! for this device! There's plenty of open source software on the internet completely and legally free! Like an idiot I bought some software for my area of the UK, at a hell of a price, to find within a week that the free software on offer had even better designed maps and covered ALL areas. However, enjoy your Garmin 60C Sx while they are so cheap. The only claim I would challenge is that the the unit will run for eighten hours on new batteries. No way! But, as a charge of batteries are a mere couple of AAs then not a big problem to keep a few spare in your pocket while out and about. They don't advise Lithium batteries either so you won't get round it that way. Anyhow, I'm sure we'll all have fun with these clever devices.Read full review
I bought the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSX GPS Receiver to use for Goecaching. Although it has been replaced by a new model GPS 62 CXS it still is as good or even better as other people have pointed out. It does not have a built in camera like the new model but I did not need that anyway as I can use my own camera if I need to. Its usefullness is in its accuracy in finding the location. I can zoom in to the spot when I'm close and find the cache even when there is a canopy of trees overhead.Battery life is good but I always carry spares and it warns when the battery level is low by darkening the screen. There is also a Yahoo Group for this phone. Very useful product and still popular.
Best gps I have used so far. Very accurate fixes even in poor reception areas. Searches nearby caches easily from imported GPX files. Only hastle is that unit does not display entire GPX log details.
Replaced my old GPSMAP 60CSx with one exactly the same as this is simply one of the best on the market.
