The auto reverse feature is excellent and the cassette itself was easy to use and good for recording and listening to. My only problem was that I was using it every night (as a sleep aid) and consequently went through batteries very fast. I wish I had been able to connect it to the mains. I would welcome any ideas on how to facilitate this!

A nice-looking and well-specified machine but my example would not replay a tape correctly. After a few seconds it would randomly jump between the two 'tracks' of the tape irrespective of the setting of the auto-reverse switch and selector. It did this with a variety of cassettes, all of which had been forward-wound and rewound several times on this and a different machine. Probably a sample fault; returned for refund.

Received the Bush Portable Cassette Walkman Recorder with AM/FM Radio today and on opening the box noted that it came with a set of portable earphones but lacked a manual. I ordered this specifically for voice recording so immediately inserted 2 x AA Batteries and a blank cassette (not included). The play/record buttons are stiff and clunky, definitely not easy to press down together to record. I ran a couple of test voice recordings which were of very poor quality - the internal microphone needs to be quite close to the mouth and there is extraneous noise picked up from the machine itself which makes it pretty useless for my requirements. The recording level is so low it can barely be heard through the extraneous noise on playback. The first few recordings I made would only play back at high speed on the machine although weirdly played back at normal speed on a similar old machine. After the 5th try the machine finally started playing back at normal speed so maybe it just needed running in. The radio works ok although depends on where you are as to how many stations you can tune into. Recording radio works too although the quality is a tad better than voice recording, it is still too poor for me to recommend this as a recorder to anyone. It is a shame as the build quality seems reasonably good, the machine looks cool and is quite compact - despite it's faults, I decided to keep it as don't have a portable radio which frankly is the only thing it is useful for, I haven't dared to try one of my precious old pre-recorded cassettes in it yet - If you are looking for a cheap radio it's ok, but as a cassette recorder, don't bother with this!Read full review
