Without a doubt this is in my opinion the best of the Blackadder series. The black humour captures the grotesque atmosphere pre Hague's "Great Push" in WWI. For many like me the futility of this war (my father lost 4 Uncles at the Somme) seems totally tragic and one wondered how they could make light of such horrific events. The final episode puts this magnificiently into perspective. The dark irrepresable humour of the lower ranks coupled with the blind stupidity of the senior Field Officers (Portrayed admirably by Stephen Fry) give a great caricature of life on the Western Front without the filth, mud, blood and bullets. This is a must see series for modern youngsters to appreciate British humour at it's best. You don't have to be an ex service man to appreciate the comments made. Wonderful.Read full review
