Great all around mic. The built in shock-mount is very useful and unique. It sounds about the same as my Shure KSM 32 in an A - B test. But once in the mix, the Dragonfly is noticeable better. It simply sounds more real. They sell new for $800. I got mine for $400. This surprises me because I would expect them to hold their value better. Maybe the original owners just don't know what they have. Don't get me wrong; the dragonfly is not in the same class as my Neumanns. But for $400 you can get some great, professional recordings out of it on many different sources. If you spend less than $500 on a used one, you will not regret your purchase.
In sum, you will get a lot more mid-range boost out of this as opposed to the regular Dragonfly. At least that's my experience so far. The regular Dragonfly, which I do really like, seems to emphasize the low and especially high end of the signal. And it sounded great on my wife's voice. The Deluxe, however, is a 'fuller' sounding mic. It's closer, in my limited experience, to an AKG 414, though without the option of multiple patterns. But in defense of the Deluxe, it also seems to have more clarity than my old 414. The mic is, of course, really beautifully crafted and, if you need it serviced, as I did, you won't find a nicer, more helpful group of people than the Blue folks out in Southern CA. J W Davis
Great on just about everything that I've tried them on. They do have a sweet spot and it varies from instrument to instrument (voice to voice); however, if you take the time to get them placed right they'll blow your mind. Very happy with them.

Like most people have said: this mic has a smooth sound, with good detail and not over-blown high frequency response. OK on vocals, but I think it's probably better on other things: Guitar cabs and drum overheads perhaps. It is quiet, with "uncolored" neutral sound. On the other hand, there are better mics out there for less money. So I think these are over-priced.
Absolutely love how this mic sounds for drum overheads. Cymbals have a clean shimmer with a beefy thickness to them. This mic is known to color the source instrument a bit and when it colors percussion, it paints a beautiful soundscape.
