ebay offer - plans now include the sailing plans as well.
The photos are of the 12th boat of this design that was built by a total novice with very little DIY experience and absolutely no experience of boat building. He achieved a good result with these plans, basic tools and 42 hours work (A little longer for the sailing version). To date there has been alot of these built so, it's tried and tested.
This design, along with a few others, was initially drawn up as a traditional plank on frame build to be sold as kits. It was easily re-designed for the relatively easy Stitch & Tape method of boat building which is ideal for the first time DIY builder. The great thing about all of my designs is that they can be built as a rowing/motor dinghy and then add a sail rig later. The building instructions are easy to read and take you through the build process step by step. No special tools are needed - basically, just a jig saw, pliers, sander and some clamps - and the materials are easily found locally or by mail order. We provide a list of suppliers we use or we can supply the epoxy etc. There is also details of a simple practice pieceto introduce you to using epoxy and we will help by email/texy/phone if you need it.
Other options with this design are a marine plywood DIY kit which can be found in our or we sell a "Stitch & Tape" boat building manual which uses the Rye Bay 8 as an example.
Building a boat is a very enjoyable project giving you something to go pottering about on your local water, fishing, rowing to keep fit or motoring off to a secluded picnic site. All you need is a little time and patience. The boat pictured was a first attempt built over two weekends. The builder has now built a 4.5m sailing boat for his family to go sailing in. The plans are ideal for the first time builder or as a gift for someone who wants to build a boat to get them started.
This is not our only design. (See our other listings or our website).
The plans are contained on a CD in PDF format and are normally despatched on same day as receipt of payment.
All for £12.75 inc. P&P
(UK Only - International buyers £2.00 extra)
