The hotly anticipated remasters of arguably one of the greatest rock bands ever give a new era of digital clarity and make these classic rock songs sound even better when played at ear splitting volume! It is important to remember that when this CD was first released in late 1992 that rumours were rife that the band were going their seperate ways. Richie Samboya (lead guitar) had attempted to begin a solo career with a modicum of success, and the others had also begun their own sideline interests. This can be felt in the more downplayed nature of the songs. However the musicianship on this album is what genuinely shines through. The gritty nature of the title track, combined with one of Samboya's finest solos, give this album a Springsteen-esque quality, making it thoroughly enjoyable. Interestingly enough this album contains Bon Jovi's first serious epic rock ballad, in the form of Dry County. Haunting lyrics and an extended guitar solo make this song a classic, although too long to appear on the selection of rock anthem albums and greatest hit CDs that make up the majority of Bon Jovi's current sales. In short, a more controlled, refined album than previous offerings, focussing more on musical ability and maybe lacking some of the energy of the early years. Any Bon Jovi fan will enjoy this, and anyone with a penchant for bands like the Eagles and Bruce Springsteen won't be disappointed either.Read full review
