Pro features, reasonably priced. Lightweight, rugged yet compact build, reliable. Versatile recording capability -- built in mics, two XLR mic-level imputs, one line level XLR input. Phantom power for condenser mics. Mini male Phones output. Three "set it and forget it" presets. Powerful mic level preamps work great with boundary mics for conference table recording. Be sure to keep current with factory firmware updates and you'll be fine. Phone tech support is great. This is the best recorder I have ever owned.
I record community radio stories and podcasts. The Marantz PMD661 digital recorder does a great job. I use dynamic microphones and I don't to have to boost the gain too high to get a good signal. The unit has many options -- more than I need -- but still is easy to figure out. Battery power is sufficient for a couple of hours. An 8gb sdhc card gives you plenty of time to conduct 2-mic stereo interviews. There is very little noise in the recordings. Very pleased with the unit.

This "vintage" 2-speed cassette player/recorder is perfect for learning music for guitar, piano, etc. There are not many of them left in this good of shape. I am glad to have it and recommend it to any musician looking to sharpen their proficiency.

I have used other recorders including another Marantz model. This is by far my favorite. It produces great audio.

The only concern I have is that it is too big.
