I had read the book and the DVD closely followed the plot, I found the actors were very engaging.

BRICK LANE is a film based on a novel by Monica Ali, starring Tannishta Chatterjee. It was filmed in UK and Bafta nominated in 2008. It is about a Bangladeshi girl married off (through arranged marriage) to a Bangladeshi man resident in UK. It transcends the typical paradigms of what we all Hindus and Muslims like to be comfortable with and provides a different perspective to many South Asian people's concept of Non- Residents who have migrated abroad for a 'better life'.. It will re-orient your priorities and refresh your orientations and sensitivities. It may even do much more....I suggest that you watch this film.

I heard the beginning of the story on the radio which prompted me to obtain the DVD of the story and would recommend it.

Just looked very unusual from other films that I've seen and I was interested to know what the storyline was all about.Found that the children's dad in the film was quite a strange character, this is why the wife was unhappy until she was led into temptation and then regretted this. Didn't enjoy the part when she was forced into a marriage I thought it was very wrong.
this was very true to the book and I really enjoyed it . Not being Asian I don't know if this is true to life but it came across as being so.
