It is a temporary replacement for a slightly ailing Pearl Flip, until my contract runs out. It is a very study phone and considering its age a very useful tool. The cut down keyboard (only 20 keys for a full qwerty plus numbers and symbols) would be a reason for not buying this model if you are an incessant texter or use it for long emails... doubling up on letters means that you never know what word the predictive text will come up with! But as it is the same with the Pearl I was already used to it. On first insertion of the SIM the Message and Contact lists were not accessible. After removal and reinsertion they were then aparrent and worked correctly. I was disappointed that the phone would not automatically sync the address book and call logs to my Parrot Hands Free Car Kit.. and the Bluetooth submenu doesnt include Object Push even though the manual says it should. So I can receive calls normally but cant make any from the Hands Free Kit. There doesn't appear to be a firmware upgrade either. A real plus point for me is the reception. In my house I could previously only get sufficient reception upstairs or in the conservatory, it seemed that any building masked the Pearl's signal. But the 7100 has very good reception pretty much anywhere I ve taken it so far which is a uselful improvement. I is a Business tool.. so it doesnt include camera or mp3 player, which is understandable, but I did expect some of the basic tools that were on the Pearl.. and the ability to open Word docs and Excel spreadsheetsaseem to be , which is sadly lacking. However this phone is not the latest model and the very reasonable price of under £30 made it a very acceptable substitute for the Pearl as a temporary measure.Read full review
I have been blown away by this device. I have verichat (MSN messnger, ICQ, AIM & Yahoo Messenger clone), blogberry (RSS), Avantgo and bb email all running at the same time. Its awesome to get email and messenging services where-ever and instantly. This is truely a breakthrough device, once you have used push-email, all other email technology seems archaic. The keyboard takes a few hours to get used to, but is then faster then an normal keyboard, mostly due to the reduce 'finger mileage' needed (as it is one-press). The signal quality is great on the 7100v and the speaker phone is very useful. Anyone who wants to be connected out of home/office or on hoiday really needs one of these devices.
My third Blackberry the 7100 didn't disappoint. The different keyboard layout took some getting used to but was intuitive and I was soon typing quickly. All the functions are easy to use and the integration with my PC was fantastic. You don't need to use the full e-mail forwarding function on a Blackberry to see the extended benefits of a device that you can link with Outlook. Thoroughly recommended. Don't get a standard phone for the same price. The only downside is using the phone in full sunlight - the screen can be very difficult to see. Good job I am in England!
