This is my third Canon PowerShot A1400 camera: the previous two were damaged by being dropped onto hard surfaces. Unlike modern compact cameras, this model has an optical viewfinder: its zoom is synchronised with that of the lens. Modern compact cameras only show the view on their screens, but my "intentional tremors" (shaking hands) prevent me from using such machines: I have to hold the camera against my head to steady it. If it has a weakness it is the middle catch that holds the battery door closed. That can break on an impact, then the door bends under the pressures of the sprung contacts for the batteries and the camera is no longer weatherproof. All three have taken excellent photographs. It is easy to set up and use.

I bought this little gem because it is not always easy to use my Canon SLR as it is quite a thing to carry around especially with add on lenses etc. and needed a small camera to carry in my pocket. It fills the bill exactly easy to carry easy to use great zoom ,I am so pleased with it and would recommend it to anyone that just wants to take great photos easily

I bought this camera because my wife finds it hard to see normal viewing screens in sunlight (don't we all?) Well, there is some difference between what you see in the viewfinder and what you see on the screen, but we can live with that. More cameras should have optical viewfinders, in my opinion.
