Just what I needed to replace my stolen camcorder.Simple to use, easy to carry and good quality pictures.
My expensive Sony hard drive camcorder produced a fault on the LCD screen after 18 months and the shop I bought it from, refuses to repair it. I do a lot of videoing of local national and international events, usually to publish to You Tube, so I needed a suitable video camera at a reasonable price having lost so much on my Sony. The Canon MD205 Mini DV camcorder I bought fits the bill very well. It is a bit large compared to the Sony but this tends to help stabilise it when recording. The old DV tape technology still produces good quality video that is easily transfered to a PC. I tend to use 'Windows Movie Maker' for editing which of course is free and now allows you to burn your masterpiece to DVD. The transfer was far simpler than my hard drive Sony and split the recording into small scenes. DV tapes are still freely available at a very reasonable price. The camera has a powerful zoom, an easy joystick negotiating method on the LCD screen, one of the few cameras now to have a viewfinder, an output microphone socket and a very clever fast start button that brings it into action within a second. The supplied battery was a little short of charge, so I bought a much larger capacity battery for very little on eBay, which seems to last for ever. A very good buy for less than £100 which should set me up for hopefully a lot longer than the 18 months the Sony gave me, for more than three times the cost.Read full review
Its an excellent little camcorder, I use for taking video's of wildlife and the countryside in general, then after editing make DVD's to play back on TV which gives very good results. I only deceided to buy it after I saw a recommendation on the Gadget Show website, but it is perfect for what I need at the moment.
