Tested this on a sample of fresh dot 4 gave 1% led on. Left the sample open to the ambient air for about 3 days and the reading gradually increased to 4% led on which shows the fluid does suck in water from the air and the tester unit does really work (I was sceptical). Tested my car reservoir and it gave 2%. I am going to just empty the reservoir every few months and refill with fresh fluid. Hopefully this should be an easy way of keeping the fluid healthy without the trauma of bleeding the brakes

Bought it, fitted a battery, and tried it on new fluid and old fluid. Old fluid was no good. New fluid ok. One car was ok (1% moisture) but another no good (4%) so I changed fluid immediately. Saved me changing 1 car's fluid for another year! Excellent analysis tool and easy to use. If you use your tyre pressure gauge you can use this tool.

I tried this device on a car which has just had the brake fluid changed, told me it was good. Also tried in a clean jar with new fluid, reading good. Added about 10% water and shook it up, reading went to the very top, bad condition needs changing. So it works but not sure on accuracy, would need a better test than my rough check

Handy bit of kit, especially when the main dealer claims the brake fluid has been changed when in reality it hasn't.. seems a tough and well put together little tool .

I confess that I have never used this for testing brake fluid. I use it to detect damp caused by condensation in woodwork and soft furnishing in my boat, for which it is excellent and well worth the cost, which was equivalent to a pint of beer.
