yes, it does seem a little dated but you have to remember that the film was made in 1980, that's 27 years ago! it only went onto dvd in 2001 hence the quality...... as a bit of a tatum fan (all because of international velvet when i was young!)i can say i did enjoy the film, nothing outstanding, no special effects but for me still worth watching. there is a scene when sarah (tatum) meets ashley (burton) in the theatre.... look out for some well known faces, you'll see tatum's father ryan o'neal and lee majors there too.
I bought this because I adore Richare Burton. He was indeed a fine actor, had great presence, a beautiful face and a voice to die for. Listening to him reading poetry is sheer escapism, hypnotic and beautiful. But seeing Burton on this DVD was very sad. His body ravaged with drink and painkillers it was obvious that the man was in great discomfort. He looked tired, worn out, drained, and the whole thing was an effort. I have no idea why he was chosen for this role, he deserves better. Tatum's performance was bland, like performing in a school play, I have seen her in greater roles. The quality of the film was dreadful, almost as if it were a copy. I was totally disappointed in this film, not something I would bother watching again.
