I have to say that I did not like this film.It wasn't that it did not have a strong cast, on the contrary it had an excellent cast but a story line that was not worthy of there talent. The story is about two couples who partner ends up having an affair within the other couples relationship. And as you would expect the truth comes out and of course the innocent parties get hurt.Revenge is always going to be at the fore front of someones mind.
I saw this film in the cinema and later decided to buy it on dvd to enjoy anytime, I also thought my partner would find it interesting to watch! This is a beautifully shot film. The storyline is intriguing, the actors are amazing. It gives a portrayal of relationships of today and the complications that go along with them, including betrayal, jealousy, passion and of course love. The film seems to be centred around the character of Alice although this may be disagreeable. Certain aspects of it closly resembled the relationship I have with my partner and others might also find this so for them. There is nothing that I didn't like about the film apart from that I wanted it to last longer. In all this is definitely a memorable film, especially if you are a fan of any of the actors.
This movie has an all star line up, which is what sold itself to me, I thought "anything with this many stars in it, must be decent", unfortunately i found this film to be slightly lacking. I think the storyline is interesting, but the constant jumps forward in time without warning or notification of how far into the future you've travelled does leave the viewer feeling somewhat bemused. Julia Roberts' character seems rather submissive and not at all like the character I would have expected her to play. If this is her attempt to break away from her stereotyping, it only succeeded in demeaning her truly able acting ability. Jude Law plays his stereotypical womanising gentleman, and carries this role off well. The on screen chemistry between himself and Natalie Portman is clear to see from the outset, but gets lost along with the plotline within this film. I believe that the story is good and it is just the director's display of this film that has produced this effect. This is not a film to watch if you are easily distracted or are trying to eat your popcorn, as taking your eyss away from the screen means you will miss vital elements or even years within this complex plotline. I felt the amount of swearing was unneccessary, and could have been minimised.Read full review
