When you first head about Cossacks you would say "Just another real time strategy", "It's not even 3D". OK, that's true but Cossacks is much more. First: the buildings - every nation has its unique buildings based on real historical buildings. Only Algeria and Turkey have very similar buildings, but not big deal. You'll see the beauty of the game in the campaigns with pre-build cities - you see roads, gardens, small stones, lakes. Second: huge battles with up to 8000 units on the map (Only 200 per player in Age of Empires II). Expect no lag on today powerful PC's. Every nation has at least 1 unique unit and different geographical regions (Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Algeria/Turkey) have entirely different units. Third: realism - get on top of a hill and kill'em all. Plain infantry and villagers cannot destroy buildings, you need artillery or special units. Fourth: Try your strategic thinking with different formations for your army. The ships are beautiful and you see their reflection in the water. But one drawback is that they are extremely powerful against buildings and land units. There are four interesting but extremely difficult historical campaigns (I managed to complete some of them by capturing a villager and building a base).Read full review
