The suffering and carnage of the US troops on UTAH beach is incomprehensible. They truly went to hell and back but didn't (and could not) stop as the invasion would have stalled and failed. We owe an enormous dept. of gratitude to those American British and Canadian men (and women) who gave their lives in order for us to live in freedom. Stephen Ambrose describes the British Canadian and American beaches as well as the Airborne objectives to secure the beach heads. I read this book having read Band of Brother's by Mr Ambrose and then followed it up with Pegasus Bridge. All three books are captivating but do describe the horrors of war. I am writing this review on a beautiful English summers afternoon on 06th June 2018 seventy four years to the day that these brave men began the destruction of the most evil empire the world has ever known. Thank you I will never forget what you did for us. RR.Read full review
