The Retevis RT3 is a superb radio. If you're a HAM looking to get on DMR you couldn't find a better radio for even a remotely decent price. Easy to program, easy to use. Audio is super clear and sounds great. I really like the channel selector and if you're careful when you organize your channels inside the zone, you can be on the same talkgroup when you switch zones.

Digital radios were outrageously expensive, and were priced out of the hands of many. Then the Retevis RT3 came along. It changed everything. For the first time, DMR was truly available to the masses, so to speak. Amateur radio operators on a Baofeng budget could experiment within the digital realm without spending hundreds of dollars on digital equipment, and because the UHF version was Part 90 type accepted for commercial use, small businesses could afford to keep up with their competitors and migrate to digital without the exhorbitant cost. The Retevis RT3 was a game changer, and turned Retevis into a respected brand in the DMR marketplace almost overnight.

This is a clone of the TYT MD380, so the same programming lead, software and codeplugs will work. This radio requires newer firmware (v13) rather than the v3 of my older MD380 but otherwise identical. Loud RX audio so fine in a noisy vehicle or factory floor. TX audio reports are good. Sensitivity is fine for a handheld - I can work through local repeater from inside a vehicle up to about 10 miles away. Supplied speaker mic gives loud and clear RX audio, but microphone appears to rectify the pulsed RF from the rig on transmit, so TX audio is overlaid with pulse sounds. Useable in an emergency, but not really any good. I suspect the mic would work fine in FM mode, although I've not checked.

Sent for the Radio arrived within 2days, unpacked it nice and small 2 antenners ear phone and speeker. No program cable, so I went to my local Radio Club, and had it progrand in, the Adio is the best I have herd from a handytalkie. I have a Kenwood TH-7 handytalkie and the Retevis out shines it by a mile, also very easy to use, de G0CSK
