      Perfection!

      This cd is, for me, as close to musical perfection as you are going to get! Damien Rice's songs are achingly beautiful, with gorgeous words threaded through uncluttered arrangements of - mainly - guitar and cello, with the addition of Lisa Hannigan's harmonies and vocals adding a finishing touch. Emotions pour from the songs, from anger and bitternes in 'Cheers Darling', infatuation in 'The Blower's Daughter' that many will now recognise from the film 'Closer' and gut-wrenching pain in 'Cold Water'. There are many very beautiful songs on this, 'Amie' is one of my personal favourites with its sense of longing for ideals. 'Cheers Darling'is for me the one track I occasionally skip past, as it jars with the fluid beauty of the other songs. This is an album that has returned again and again ...

      I loved it from the 1st listen, atmospheric & acoustic mainly, melodic & meloncoly, strong lyrics that tell stories, also check out David Ford if you like Damien, very similar

      Come a long way since busking the streets of Galway. The 2002 version of this album is distinct from the subsequent releases in as much as the production is less polished and the result more personal a performance. Great album which ever you get, but to come closer to sitting in the rooms where the tracks were first recorded, then go for the 2002 version.
