To give a fair review of Heathen, or infact any of Bowie's later albums you have to take it in context. No one is gonna seriously compare the latest Paul Mccartney album to Abbey Road, so why should Bowie be treated any differently?! Heathen arrived after another decade of frantic genra hopping seeing Bowie trying to keep up with the current trends. Everyone has their own oppinon on the results of this, but its safe to say there were more troughs than peaks. As a result Bowie fans worldwide must have breathed a sigh of releif when 2002s Heathen was released. We find David building on the template laid out in 1999s Hours, with stronger songs and lusher production (thanks to Visconti's return behind the desk). Basically you've got a good solid rock album here with no nasty suprises. Standout tracks Sunday, Everyone Says Hi & Slip Away.Read full review
