Another book group read. I found the book very cliched - Detective hero drives a cult car, check; he has a troubled private life, check; he has problems with his boss/polie heirarchy, check; etc. He is also not a very good detective - he personally only does one bit of actual factual detective work and he doesn't use the evidence that this produces. He has gut feelings about the reliability of witnesses and relies on magic. The only good thing about the book was that, especially in the first 2/3rds, there is a lot of irrelevant detail which means you can skim read it without missing any relevant plotlines.

Peter James's Roy Grace series was recommended by a friend. Dead Simple certainly encourages me to read more, it's brilliant so far.
