is a very modular laptop( you can upgrde most of things: proccesor up to 2.8, ram up to 4GB,dvd to blue ray, hdd to ssd, screen up to 1920x1200(thats why i got this one) battery even old holds at least 1h depending on settings, replacements are cheap). Not light weight but sturdy build and with a intel t8100 intel procesor upgrade and a ssd this thing is more then what you need for, web, office word, excel, spreadsheets, youtube and music comes with the disatvantage of weight but with the advantage of having a solid built laptop that does not go into bits or is flimsy.

The Dell 1520 laptop is a fairly sturdy laptop, with a reasonable build quality. The entry level model comes with a Celeron processor, 80gb hard disk and 1gb memory, I would avoid this model at all costs, it isn't really powerful enough to run modern versions of Windows and will struggle playing some games. If you are set on buying this type of laptop, then I would make sure it is equipped with the core 2 duo processor, it makes a vast difference. If you upgrade the laptop to an absolute minimum of 2gb RAM, then the laptop should be able to cope with Windows 7 quite easily and will be able to handle basic 3D games. But in all honesty if you buy one of these you will find yourself investing good money upgrading the memory and hard disk, you may also have to shell out for a webcam and bluetooth. The plus side for this model is that you can buy them quite cheaply, for around £40-£50. On the negative side, they dont age well, the plastics are not very strong and the paint tends to wear. Overall I would avoid this laptop if you plan to do anything other than browsing the internet, if your looking for a starter laptop for your children, then this will do the job... barely.Read full review
Released in 2007, this laptop came in a variety of colours and features some nice buttons on the front that light up blue when you press them. The design is solid but on the heavier side. 9 cell batteries are available which should yield around 5 - 6 hours running time. Today, nearly 10 years later it is still useful with a few upgrades which are definitely worth doing. The other reviewer mentioned that the entry level model comes with an Intel Celeron CPU. Yes, this is slow, but can be swapped out for a Core 2 Duo. These are very cheap on here at the moment. I would recommend the T9300 (2.5GHz, 6mb L2 cache). This is a massive upgrade from the Celeron and will be powerful enough for most users. It handles HD video streaming with no problem. In terms of memory, the laptop supports up to 6GB (yes, 6!) of DDR2 RAM which is plenty even in 2016. I would also throw in an SSD which drastically improves loading times and responsiveness. The wireless card can also be replaced with a modern one which supports the new 802.11ac standard (some manufacturers of new laptops prevent you from upgrading the wireless card). All in all, a great laptop of it's time and with a few upgrades can be surprisingly fast and able to do most things newer models can.Read full review
