If you want car chases and shootouts then Dixon of Dock Green is not for you. But in place of the vicarious adrenaline rush you get a thoughtful and well-written plot based around looking for clues, analysing evidence, and solving the crime. Jack Warner as Dixon is obviously too old to be a police officer but who cares? Dixon's relationship with his son-in-law Andy, a detective who does most of the action, adds a family atmosphere to the Dock Green "nick". Well worth watching. If only all 432 episodes had survived! But the 20 or so episodes on DVD are great.
