The Driller Killer is one of the most notorious films ever. It almost single-handedly spawned the media "video nasty" hysteria of 1984 and the introduction of the video recordings act. It is also the film that launched the career and reputation of critically acclaimed director, Abel Ferrara. Away from the hysteria, The Driller Killer is a powerful and compelling study of one man's descent into madness and violence. Reno is struggling artist close to breaking point. The loud punk band in the flat next door practices for 24 hours a day. His debts are mounting. He needs to sell his new painting to pay the overdue rent on the shabby New York apartment he shares with his girlfriend and her spaced-out lesbian lover. Even though this film is old don't let that put you off it will shock you and scare you even by todays standards. This is one of the first video nasties and it is one of the best it will make you see where a lot of todays directors got their inspiration from. For blood and guts this is up there with the best of them Hostel and Saw eat your heart out and bow down in praise as this film is one of the first and definatly one of if not the best horror film of all time. Anybody watching this will squirm at least once and as a hardened horror fan that is a one off thing for me to say about any film, and this is what gives this film its appeal to think this was filmed before all of the modern special effects like CGI that we have today just makes it just that much better. A must to watch and a must to own so you can watch it again and again I am glad I found this film on DVD and I am glad I now own it and I don't say that about many films. If this film is going cheap on ebay buy it if this film costs a bit on ebay still buy it you will not be disappointed you will squirm I know I did.Read full review
the reason i bought this film is because i love horror this is an old film but one ive always meant to watch but never had the chance. now i have seen it i must say its got to be the worst film ever made
thought it looked good by seeing the front cover but when i watched it it was a very poor film indeed nothing much in it and was very poor filming quality
The infamy of this movie often overshadows it's merits. It did not deserve the bad publicity it recieved in the UK during the 80's. Have a look yourself
