Duran Duran 40 Years On Still Listening
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
After the acrimonious split between band and record company, EMI did everything they could to continue to make money from Duran Duran's popularity because they knew fans in particular would buy into it. Hence there's this collection which is one of many similar ones. Although the songs are as you'd expect, a fantastic collection of the 1980s sound of the early Duran we know and love, I can't help feeling cheated owning this because the track listing is so poor. Most of the tracks exist on the self titled debut and "Rio" albums, with a couple of B-Sides wedged in between: "Like An Angel" and two cover versions "Fame" (Bowie song) and a live version of Cockney Rebel's "Come Up And See Me (Make Me Smile)" from 1982. These too are great recordings, but best appreciated on the original singles (see singles boxed set 1981 -1985). Given that these tracks are all in existence on better formats, this really is only for the collectors of Duran paraphenalia, but even the cover lacks the creativity of the band. If you want the tracks, look elsewhere but if you're a collector and really want this, I hope you don't pay too much for it.Read full review
