Having previously owned a larger Dyson I thought I would try this smaller and lighter machine. It has surprisingly good suction power and is reasonably easy to manouevre around furniture and under units. However it doesn't give the impression of having the longer term durability of the DC07 it replaced. Only time will tell.
I bought this Dyson as my wife has a bad back. This one is light and easy to manouvre. My daughter had one and after using it I told my wife we have to get one. We love it.
I am very wary of Dyson hoovers as in the past I have had both an upright and a cylinder version of the animal, both of which went wrong within a few short weeks of having them. No loss of suction they say, try no suction at all!!! This happily has not been the case with my new one. It is light, easy to use as it glides around the room in any direction you choose to take it with no fuss. I thought my LG cylinder hoover was pretty good until I used this dc18 for the first time, having only just hoovered the house that morning I thought it was pretty clean, not the case I soon found out when I thought I would give it a try to make sure it was working. I managed to fill the container with only 1 room. What can I say this dyson really does suck! Something else worth mentioning is that it is very easy to put together when you take it out of the box (however it is in the box so tight it will take you longer to get it out than it will to make it up) I had mine set and ready to go within 2 minutes of starting the task of putting it together. To keep your Dyson in top form I recommend that you clean out the collected dirt everytime you use the vacuum this will keep from any dust collecting on the filter and causing the loss of suction. All round good machine highly suggest that you invest on this rather than an older model which are not as good and much bulkier - this one fits into very small spaces with ease as it is is light and compact.Read full review
It took a few days to get used to this new smaller Dyson, it was a bit heavier than I had expected and the new roller ball steering was quite difficult to suss how to use. BUT once I had cottoned on to just let the machine go where it wants instead of trying to fight the steering I found it absolutely brilliant!!! The smaller slimmer head is SUPERB and gets under the furniture and into lots of places where previously I had to move stuff so is worth it's weight in gold for that alone! It's equally good on my hard kitchen floor. It has a terrific suction (but then all Dyson's do) and this one has lost no power through being smaller. The dust cannister is small but lovely and easy to empty and I haven't filled it yet! I do tend to empty it every time it's used as I have 2 dogs so don't want a smelly vacumm! My one and only gripe is that the power lead is slightly shorter than the bigger dysons so where I could hoover the whole bungalow from one socket I now have to unplug it and move it to another socket which is a shame for the sake of 12"! All in all I think this is a great little vacumm and it comes with the dyson 5 year gaurantee (Their after sales is superb) It does exactly what you want a vacumm to do, pick up the dirt and keep your carpets looking nice!Read full review
I did a lot of reasearch before buying the Dyson DC18. I had one of the very first Dyson Vacuum's which was great apart from being big heavy old thing but as with all Dyson's the suction was fantastic and when it did go wrong the after sales service from Dyson was excellent. I clicked the button on this purchase with hesitancy, its a lot of money for a vacuum, had I done the right thing. I was worried about the "ball" steering, the small canister and the general design. Why did I hesitate, what a great purchase I made, the ball steering is really easy, the canister is plenty big enough, the vacuum is lightweight, powerful, compact and easy to carry up and down the stairs. The small head manouvers easily under furniture and round corners and the wand is great for stairs and tiny spaces. The switch for "brush and no brush" is great so all those loop pile carpets will not be fluffed up by the brushes and it is great for hard floors too. And in addition to this a 5 years guarantee. Top marks from me. I am extremely pleased with this vacuum and would happily recommend it.Read full review
