A previously forgotten collection of Victorian photographs acquired by the National Portrait Gallery in 1973. The pictures, some of the earliest ever taken, were the work of the Scottish masters David Octavius Hill and Robert Adamson whose superb results have never been equalled by anyone else using the early process of calotype. Dust jacket is price clipped but otherwise in very good condition with light bumps and soiling with some damage to plastic protective sleeve. Burgundy and black boards with gilt titles to spine are in excellent condition with light shelf wear. Internal pages are clean and unmarked.
