This is not really a slimming book but if you understand its message you can lose weight and then maintain a sensible weight. I first bought the original edition of Eat Yourself Slim in the 1990s and have stuck with its ideas ever since and my weight has been steady with a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 23 without any increase. In essence it explains that modern processed foods with a high GI (Glycaemic Index) cause your body to store more food as fat and overload your pancreas thus increasing the risk of diabetes. Eating more complex and less processed foods gets round this without dieting and is even cheaper. If you follow the ideas in this book and do a very little intense exercise 3 times a week you will be amazed at how much better you feel and how you no longer gain weight. Diets never work and you usually end up heavier. This is not a diet book but more a change your eating regime book. Give it a go, I did and this new edition is much improved.Read full review
Very good concept and good information gleaned from this book. If you want a sounder take on the GI diet and principals, then read the Montignac books. They are far more in depth and any questions you may have are normally answered by a dietician at Montignac. The information on Montignac differs enough from so many other sites on the net that it sends you on a quest to double check other people's information about GI...then you come back to Montignac and depend on his research and information instead.
Helps you understand what & when to eat.
