This is a very nice collection of Elvis songs. I just love Flaming Star, it makes me feel good. There are also some of his lesser known songs on this CD. Great songs like Night Life, Tiger Man and All I Needed Was The Rain are forgotten songs that really shows Elvis' different styles. One thing keeps this CD from getting 5 stars, it's way too short. Only 9 tracks is way too little. Yes, it's a rerelease from the original LP, but the LP was also too short. Buy it!
This album was originally released in 1968 exclusively at Singer sewing centers, who were the sponsor for Elvis' 1968 comeback special broadcast on NBC. It was reissued in 1969 by RCA as a budget release on its subsidiary Camden label. Although it featured only 9 recordings, it was a unique release because these tracks were being released together on an album for the first time. The opening selection was the title song for the 1960 feature film "Flaming Star". The song had previously been issued on record in 1960 as part of the EP "Elvis By Request". It makes its official album debut here. The remaining 8 tracks all made their vinyl debut with this album. "Wonderful World" was the opening number for "Live A Little, Love A Little"; "Night Life" and "Do The Vega" were recorded for the film "Viva Las Vegas" but did not appear in the movie; "All I Needed Was The Rain" was included in "Stay Away, Joe"; "Too Much Monkey Business" was a mid-60s recording that has the same feel as Elvis' output from this period; the medley of "The Yellow Rose Of Texas/The Eyes Of Texas" was one of the highlights from "Viva Las Vegas"; "She's A Machine" was an unreleased track recorded for the film "Easy Come, Easy Go"; "Tiger Man" was included in the 1968 comeback special and also holds the unique distinction as the first officially released live recording of Elvis' career. These tracks have been digitally remastered for the finest sound quality available. This CD also gives younger fans the opportunity to experience a special album release. "Elvis Sings Flaming Star" also started a series of budget albums released by RCA/Camden during the early 70s, followed by a series of reissues on the Pickwick label starting in 1975. This is a classic album that belongs in every Elvis CD library.Read full review
This not one of Elvis' best albums it was originally released as a budget album on Camden. It is essential for some of his songs unless you want those songs on compliation releases, which I don't. However, the artwork is first rate and has a great shot of Elvis on the cover. I decided to buy the CD because it's at a fair price and enables me to mirror my LP collection on CD by having as many original releases as possible.
This was the first record I ever got, almost 40 years ago now. After not hearing it for nearly 30 years, I was amazed that i remembered all the lyrics. What a gifted man he was. What is usually written off as a lesser recording is lifted above mediocrity by THAT voice! The songs are different: country and western (Flaming Star), Cabaret (Night Life, Wonderful world)a Chuck Berry rocker (Too Much Monkey Business), and a live in-promptu performance that Elvis literally growls (Tiger man). none of these songs are remembered as classics, except by that young boy who remembers hearing them 40 years ago and now can't get the line "Take a chance and do the Vega" out of his head!
VERY GOOD
