I loved eragon the movie, the sense of action, fantasy. Some very powerful points, when Brom dies and when everyone thinks that Saphira dies. Overall I think along with countless others that this was a absolute brilliant film and can't wait for the second film to come out!
If you liked the Lord of the Rings...then you're in for a laugh! The movie can probably be sumed up by 2 words: 'So what?'. The main problem with Eragon is that the plot is too complicated for a young audience (they struggled summing up 500+ pages in less than 2 hours) and too cheesy for a more mature one... From what I understand this movie covers the first of 3 books in the epic. I am not looking forward to the other 2... I quite like Jeremy Irons but why didn't he learn from the abysmal Dungeons and Dragons? Oh, and for those who would buy this DVD just for Rachael Weisz, don't bother - she is the voice of the dragon... That's only my opinion though and I'm sure lots of people enjoyed the movie (which took a whopping $75 million at the US box office!) and are going to buy the DVD. in this case, I would recommend the Special Edition DVD packed with loads of extras.Read full review
Let's get this out of the way, this is not a masterpiece. The director hasn't learned to be patient and keep us hanging on the edge. Scenes are a little ill fitted and the plot flaws have not been ironed out anywhere as much as they should have been. Yet, for all its flaws and shortcomings, Eragon has something to it. It's uplifting and the main character's innocence, coupled with a world of fantasy and great scenery makes up for whatever the scripts lack in finesse. There is a sense of adventure and a desire to tell the story. And the story is good
I bought it because the book was good. But as is often the case you enjoy the book but the film never lives up to it. Perhaps if you are not familiar with the books you'd enjoy the film more than we did. My 10 year old son was, in his words disappointed. The best parts of the film was the scenery, easily on parr with Lord of the rings but there the comparison ends. The special effects were average really, expected more. The 'dark' parts of the film I found darker than what they are in the book, slightly disturbing. I was glad that I watched with my son the first (only time) he watched it, and would encourage others to do the same. I had really only bought it because the kids are home for the summer holidays and so far we've only had 1 dry week out of 5, a dvd is far cheaper than the cinema. If its watched again I'll be happy.Read full review
