I have often bid for one of the DVD's in the River Cottage series, Hugh Fearnley Wittingstall is a brilliant presenter he captures a spirit and enthusiasm for a livestyle that whilst romaticised for tv is non the less extremely attractive to people who dream of life outside the daily grind of work and money. I was extremely pleased to capture this first series DVD it shows Hugh's first year at River cottage, the pigs he decides to keep and then eat, and the garden which he turns to full scale vegitable production. The reality of country life such as death and familiarity with animals is handled well, a dilema that all meat eaters should face, a mile away from the sanitised meat in a plastic tray in the supermarket. All the people who he comes into contact with have skills and wisdom to share and the programme allows them to do this in a good and well presented manner. With the cooking sketches you can almost smell some of the dishes, and Hugh makes you believe that we could all live a more sustainable lifestyle eating produce that is local and has some intrinsic value and worth.I bought this DVD because I love to watch Hugh and I think in some corner of my mind I long to do the same kind of thing with my life, it is brilliant and enchanting and makes you ashamed to be part of the consumerism lifstyle that we all unfortunately subscibe toRead full review
If your into self-sufficiency, smallholdings or living life off the land then I highly reccomend the River Cottage series. Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall is a great presenter and it is amazing to watch his adventures in setting up and running a smallholding in Dorset. From Growing your own veggies, raising livestock to putting it all together in a recipe. A must see for all wannabe farmers!
This is a lovely DVD following Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's experiment in leaving the rat race behind to live off the land at River Cottage. He does it beautifully, with a wonderful sense of humour. You really feel like you are there with him during the trials and the triumphs. My favourite parts are when he maximises his garden produce and makes food for the Farmers Markets - the food is mouth watering and interesting. This DVD is definitely worth a look, if only for the London Chilli Challenge !!
changing all more videos to dvd was over the moon to find this programme on dvd totally brilliant with added bonus of christmas special fantastic.
