Dmitry Zinoviev was born in Riga, Latvia in 1960. He attended Rosenthal School of Fine Arts in Riga, Latvia from 1972 to 1980. Zinoviev graduated from the Latvian Academy of Fine Arts majoring in Art History in 1987.
Since 1989 Zinoviev mainly works in the art techniques of ex-Libris, collage and mail art. Around the same time, he started to participate in exhibitions. Zinoviev’s art works were presented in many countries such as Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, the USA, Poland, the Czech Republic, Belgium, France, Germany, Denmark, Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Sweden and Hong Kong.
He organized his personal exhibitions in Latvia (Riga 1992, 1996, 2006), Lithuania (Klaipeda 1995, Shilute 1996, Kaunas 1999), Italy (Pisa 1998, with Elena Antimonova), the Czech Republic (Rymarzszov 1998, Ostrava 2001).
Zinoviev’s art has been added to many private collections, libraries and museums in Latvia, the USA, Denmark, Italy, Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic.
Zinoviev has created more than 250 bookplates that have received diplomas and other awards outside of his home country of Latvia. One of the most recent awards given to the artist was at the International Ex-Libris Biennial in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 2005.
For many years Dmitry Zinoviev has been serving a Head of the Small Prints and Graphic Documents at the National Library of Latvia. He is author of more than 40 articles on contemporary photography, various artists, fashion, collages, Art Nouveau style, posters and old postcards. In January of 2008, Zinoviev has curated the exhibition at the National Library of Latvia called “Masterpieces of 300 Years – from 18th to 20th century French, Italian, English, German and Dutch prints in the National Library of Latvia collection”.
