Made in 1967 and filmed entirely on location in Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Dorset, this is Julie Christie [Bathsheba Everdene] working with the late John Schlesinger [Director] in a beautifully filmed portrayal of Thomas Hardy's "Far from the Madding Crowd". Always something going on in the background to Schlesinger's frames. Some of the photography is stunning. A subsequent remake of the novel , filmed in the Czech Republic I believe, pale into insignificance compared to this powerful, big budget 1967 film. Presumably remastered from a video transfer of the celluloid, the film sometimes lack the high definition of what we are used to now a days on our televisions, but this was extremely good value for money, and will stand the test of time. I should add that I was a school boy extra in the circus scenes, so I may be biased, but you will enjoy it!Read full review

It was very entertaining and watched intently by a 94 year old who sat with us, awake, all the way through. Loved it
