I got a FBJ on ebay with an upgraded Weber speaker already installed. Even though that speaker is supposed to be much better than the stock speaker, i was still disappointed with the sound of the FBJ. Very flat.. boxy sound that lacked mids and highs. The high and mid tone controls did very little to boost those rages. I usually play through my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe which has awesome clean tones and great drive tones and takes pedals very well. Now that i have installed these mods the FBJ sounds SO MUCH BETTER! Not boxy at all with much better highs and mids. The tone controls add and subtract as you would expect.. the gain is awesome now! The overall sound is much more like an expensive boutique amp. Still doesn't have the cleans of my Deluxe but hey... it is what it is and it's a heck of a lot better. If you crank this puppy, it sounds like ZZTOP..huge! for such a little amp...it's now a beast!Read full review

I bought the Tweed special issue with the Jensen speaker and the whole unit was modified by John Fromel. I am not a professional musician, but I have been playing guitar for over 40 years, sometimes in a group. I play mostly blues/rock and older classic Santana, Stones, Zeppelin, Clapton, Cream, Credence, Van Halen and some newer Linkin Park type rock... I have owned and played a number of guitars, amps and effects pedels. I currently play an older Gibson Black Beauty Custom Les Paul and a newer SG Standard through a Mesa/Boogie Mark II or a Fender Twin. This little Fender Blues Junior is without a doubt the best amp I have ever used. You can go from clean sparkly tones to gritty over driven Brit and American rock just by adjusting the two volume settings for overdrive. About the only thing this amp can't provide all by itself is full on metal and you can easily get that with a pedal. I am not suing any effects with this amp except for the occasional MXR phase 100. I think the EL84 tubes might have something to do with the sound of this amp and possible the special Jensen speaker, both came stock with the amp - do your own research...I have no negatives about this amp and am currently looking for another used one to bring to work and practice during lunch and breaks!!Read full review
Not everyone who plays guitars performs on a regular basis in large halls. At best, a lot of us perform with friends, in small venues, or simply at home. The temptation to buy a 60 watt amp is huge, however, the question of, "what am I going to do with all this power?" tends to creep into the back of the mind. Plus, the cost can be humbling to say the least. Because of this, and for simple, practical reasons, I suggest buying the Fender Blues Junior Amp. This amp has more power and variety in sounds than you may ever need. Its a warm, quality tube amp with far more power than you may ever need. Look at it this way, it's a great way to get your groove on, a great way to play music, and a hell of a lot of fun. Wait for the big watt amps once that song sells and pays for it all by itself. For the moment, get one of these and have a lot of fun.Read full review
This product is simple and great. It is so great that the later models already incorporate this idea. It is great that someone figured out what Fender did wrong and corrected it. The installation is so easy. You don't have to take the knobs off. This simply slides over the original lettering after loosening the mounting screws. Instructions are simple and easy to understand. Sure makes seeing the label over the knob so much easier. Thanks for a great product.

I am certain these guys did a fair amount of research in order to perfect the desired out come of their efforts. I was able to follow the instructions easily, took a little more time to complete everything...should have looked at my newly purchased jr. For which I purchased the mod kit for ,because after I started the procedure I soon realized that some of the mods had been installed by its previous owner(s) ...only needed filter caps and some of the other minor tone caps swapped out. I learned a good lesson and gained confidence and experience with working on my first circuit board amp chassis. Look closely at Your equipment and only order components you need to swap out...you will save a bit of money that way...so my only regret was my own mistake...mods did all that was said they would do...p.s. Give the amp some burn in time before you make up your mind about any improvements in tone, mine sounded better after a few hours of play time.Read full review
