Unfortunately this book is American and, with one or two exceptions, recommends every stain to be tackled with, “Enzyme laundry powder”. I was hoping for eco-friendly traditional methods. It also has weird introductions on everything, explaining what the stain is and where it comes from!

Prior to banishing your favourite stained garments that have resisted your attempts to clean to the bin or to the role of mopping spills it would be worth considering using this handy book. There are some surprisingly simple methods and most of the materials that would be needed are already in most people’s homes, but due to lack of knowledge where the book comes in you can stop the banish. It gives clues how to do deal with every day stains baby food stains, blood, water spots, candle wax, tomato stains, nail polish and also motor oil to name just a few. It also has a hilarious section with pictures showing stains. It has over 100 different stains covered and it is well divided into sections for easy reference. Buy the guide and you will probably save money even if you use the stain guide for one favourite garment that you won’t have to replace. As suggested in the book ‘if all else fails, then prop the book under your chin before that next bite of lasagne!’ Having compared other books on the market this one seems to cover more in depth techniques rather then suggest use shop bought stain removers.Read full review
