Everyone was talking about the book, I didn't have a copy, then by chance I saw the film advertised on television and watched it. Well, I couldn't see what all the fuss was about, so I bought the book, and the book is better. It is naughty in parts and to a point educational on people's treatment of others - still the domination aspect, we haven't moved on from the slave trade - but it was a good story. Quite shamefully it was my daughter that recommended the book, she has good taste. Looking forward to the sequel now.

I had been staying on the beach in Norfolk when Fifty Shades of Grey became the topic of conversation in every newspaper and magazine. Selling more than Harry Potter - shock, horror - what ever is the world coming to?!! Anyway, when I returned to 'civilisation' (well, Snettisham is a bit in the back of beyond!!) I ordered the book off eBay, and waited for its arrival. Blimey!! Was it worth waiting for?!! I have to say 'Yes, yes, .... oooh...... YES,... aaah!! (Sorry folks!) The book is a bit of an easy read, not exactly brain straining, but very 'unputdownable' I have to say. Yes, it's more than raunchy, leaving Jilly Cooper and Jackie Collins as almost virginal, but personally, I didn't find it too shocking. I have an absolute hate of torture, cruelty and bullying, and truly didn't find the book of that ilk. After all, consenting adults, and all that ..... and boy! Anastasia (the female lead in the book, for any people that have been living in a cave in Outer Mongolia these past months) surely was consenting. Every time. For everything. Get my drift?!! The book is part of a Trilogy, and I'm mid way through the third book. I have to say that I found the first book centred around sex, sex and more sex, but by the second book there was a real storyline developing, and I did find it gripping. Still sex, sex and more sex, you understand, but gripping too. Yes, there are some bits that irritated me - her inner arguments with her domestic goddess for instance, and also, the constant eye rolling, biting her lip, and putting her hair back behind her ears (all habits that she had) did get a little wearing, but on the whole, I found the books entertaining, sexy,-if not educational, at least eye opening!!! And a jolly good read!!!! If you don't beg, steal, buy or borrow them you'll be completely out of touch with the rest of the world, so go on ..... give it a whirl, you can always light the bar-b-q with it if you don't like it - they're not exactly expensive - go on ... you know you want to!! Anyway, I'm off to read another chapter or two!!! Byeeee!Read full review

I bought the book because of the the publicity; i suspect like many other people did. My partner teased me something rotten for buying porn, but to be honest i was a bit disappointed in the book - loads of S&M sex if that's your thing, which it isn't mine. I think that the basic storey was the same as any Mill and Boon book - girl meets boy, falls in love, all bliss, all isn't what it seems and they fall out but she still loves him. Very disappointed that there didn't appear to be an ending but guess that is to make you buy the other two books, which i haven't. A friend who has read them all has told me that book three is the best, but the she seemed to enjoy them all.
