Here's a (now complete) trilogy with a high concept - the cheaters of 'death's design' are picked off individually, and in sequential order, with the hero/heroine typically saved till last. The concept worked successfully for the initial installment, but since then, the downward spiral of lack of invention has spoiled what originally began as a fresh and innovative idea. Here, the now customary flashback scene at the beginning revolves around a rollercoaster ride that, through a series of 'unfortunate errors' disembarks its passengers before the end of the ride. On this premise alone, another 90 minutes of mayhem and carnage ensues, giving the viewer little in the way of titillating pleasure other than gore and (minor) nudity. Where the first movie succeeded in its original approach, this is let down by that very same approach - namely, we've seen it all before. Its a similar feeling one gets with each new Shyamalan movie these days; everyone expects the twist to be bolder and more original than the previous, to the point where the movie's success depends on the key 'reveal' at the end. To put this movie into perspective, however - one should attempt to take the film at face value alone; the director gives us no other choice. In the 21st Century, the key audience requirement appears to be gore and violence, not subversive horror, and although the original 'Final Destination' succeeded on that very premise, it had at its core an underlying feeling of terror that 'Death's design' could manifest itself at any moment. That feeling is now gone, and in its place a series of chronological set-pieces where each character meets their maker. The viewer is stripped of the sense of being out of control, that the character might or might not survive the experience. I'll give it a thumbs-up, though, because in true Jeremy Clarkson style - I have a confusing need to disagree with the critical dilettantes. And it is good fun.Read full review
This film was absoloutely brilliant! The death scenes were very gruesome especially the scene in the harware store! This dvd is a must have for disaster movie and horror lovers alike! The ending leaves an obvious opening for Final Destination 4 but if it is anything like this then I welcome it by all means! Special Features: These kind of Special features are very rare on Dvd's. The famous 'you choose their fate' version of the feature is fairly enjoyable but the movie itself is much better. There are lots of special features such as the featurette 'a look a the teenage horror genre', 'death statistics and Kill Shot which shows the making of Final Destination 3. There is also loads of Trailers and TV spots and Audio commentary from the Director, Co-Writers and the director of Photography. This film does not disappoint and you will be hooked from the moment it begins. The death scenes alone are enough to make you cringe but this is not a film for people who have a fear of rollercoasters or the faint at heart. That said ths film gets a well deserved 5/5!!!!!!Read full review
I thought Final Destination 3 was an average, fun movie, but nothing more. Basically it’s the same premise as the other two films but is set at an amusement park where a high school student (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has a premonition of a rollercoaster accident involving herself and her friends. Most of them do get off the roller coaster and survive, but it’s not long until death catches up with them (again). I loved the other movies in the series so I kind of new that I was going to like this one anyway. For this third installment they brought the original writers and director back behind the camera. For me there wasn’t a drastic improvement or anything but they did do a good job with what they were able to work from. Also I think the writers new that it would be hard to keep the audienced gripped for a third time with the same story so they added a bit more comedy than the last movie FD2, which in my opinion has worked out quite well. Ifm sure the critics will definitely slate this movie though. One thing I thought was really good was the opening to this film (though I would say that about the other films too) at the amusement park because of the way it built up to the big rollercoaster sequence. I must admit that I was expecting more from that particular scene but it done the job. There’s also some other good and terrifying scenes in the movie but everything was kind of average. On the acting side of things everything was just okay. I thought the lead in the movie was very good but everyone else was just so so. Overall I would say this an average movie that is mainly for fans of the Final Destination series though others may get a kick out of it. 6/10Read full review
Good movie, nice gory deaths (wait till you see how the two babes go down). However I think that F.D.1 and F.D.2 are better woven together, into the tapestry of darkness and despair we've come to "love" and fear. This movie is more like an "in your face"-horror film, more icy than horrifying. The deaths are not as intricate and elaborate, as it's predecessors', but still definitely worth a watch. A worthy successor, indeed, however I missed "Death" (the big black guy) the most, although I am positive I heard his voice a couple of times in the movie ;) If this was on a ten-scale it'd be closer to nine, than it is to eight, mainly due to the excellent "Choose their fate"-feature on the DVD, and other misc. bonus stuff on the disc. Finally a warning: If you ever had one of those nightmares about falling of attractions at a funfair, think twice before buying. Certain scenes made me sick to my stomach.Read full review
